Hope in the Midst of War Part 1

After a 25-hour journey that included three connecting flights, a long van ride packed with suitcases full of medical supplies and donations, and nearly four hours waiting at the Polish-Ukrainian border, our team of six safely arrived in Ukraine on Saturday afternoon. While a four-hour border crossing may sound long, we were thankful—it was actually much shorter than on some previous trips when the wait stretched to nearly ten hours.

Although we were tired from traveling, there was still work to be done. We spent the evening sorting through the medications and supplies that so many of you helped provide and packing backpacks for the children's camp. It was exciting to see everything come together, knowing these items would soon be in the hands of those who needed them most.

On Sunday, we had the privilege of worshipping with two local churches. It was wonderful to reconnect with dear friends from previous trips while also meeting many new faces. One of the most encouraging things we witnessed was seeing how these churches continue to grow and faithfully serve their communities during such a difficult time. Even in the midst of war, they remain a beacon of hope, sharing the love of Christ with those around them.

One of the most meaningful moments during our first few days was delivering medical supplies and medications to a hospital caring for wounded soldiers. While there, we had the opportunity to spend time visiting with the men recovering from their injuries, pray with them, and give each of them a small gift bag filled with fruit and candy.

Before this trip, a few of us pictured young men in their twenties filling the hospital rooms. Instead, we found that many of the soldiers were in their fifties and sixties—men who had left behind their families, careers, and everyday lives to answer the call to defend their country. Seeing their sacrifices firsthand was deeply humbling. Though many were carrying visible wounds, their gratitude, courage, and resilience left a lasting impression on each of us.

As we begin this journey, we are reminded that this mission is about so much more than delivering supplies. It is about encouraging the Church, standing alongside those who are suffering, sharing the love of Christ, and reminding people they have not been forgotten.
